Part 2 of a series of 3 workshops at Greenwood Gardens in Short Hills.: Learn about the benefits of buying directly from farmers, and the heirloom tomatoes,  being grown locally–along with internationally inspired ways to cook them from Rachel Weston.

Part 2: The Iconic Jersey Tomato, Tuesday, October 10
Once considered poisonous, the tomato has become one of the most anticipated joys of summer and synonymous with New Jersey. Learn about the tomato’s lore, its true origins, and New Jersey’s role in its popularity. There will be a tasting of locally grown heirloom tomatoes.

Part 3: Preserve the Season, Tuesday, October 17
Food preservation is an age-old way of making the most of produce when it is in season. The class includes an overview of canning, freezing, pickling, dehydrating and lacto-fermenting techniques and the equipment needed to get started. There will be a tasting of locally produced specialty food products.
